There are basically two approaches to videoconferencing: hardware-based and software-based. The hardware approach is often easier for the user as they just have to press a button to connect. The software approach is more flexible but does require some basic computer literacy. And of course, there are hybrid systems.Stellenbosch University has gone the software videoconferencing route in the form of Skype for Business.
From the SUCCEED perspective, it means that any lecturer/doctor can communicate with any student/colleague anywhere as long as both have a reasonably good Internet connection, a microphone and a webcam. Most webcams have built-in microphones and most laptops have built-in webcams.
